The summer season takes a toll on your skin, depleting essential oils and natural glow. While visiting a salon for quality skincare is an option, the weather often makes people reluctant to go out. To maintain healthy skin without leaving home, we've compiled a list of easy-peasy solutions and apps that can help. These DIY tips, along with budget-friendly apps, will ensure your skin stays happy and well-nourished this summer.

Consider Retinoids

Retinoids unplug pores, help clear up acne, reduce fine lines, boost collagen production, lighten brown spots and freckles, and improve skin texture. They can even help treat precancerous lesions. Retinoids are sold by prescription only under names that include Renova, Retin-A, and the generic Tretinoin. "A retinoid should be the foundation of any topical anti-aging regimen," says dermatologist Paul M. Friedman, MD, co-author of Beautiful Skin Revealed.

Establish a good skin care routine

Your skin needs to breathe overnight, so if you don’t wash it, you’ll end up with more blemishes. Believe it or not, one of the best ways to wash your face is to put a bit of olive oil on a cotton ball and gently massage it into your face to get rid of the makeup and dirt. Don’t forget to exfoliate, too. Get in the habit of exfoliating your skin at least once a week to remove all the dead skin that has accumulated.

Use a Toner

Before applying moisturiser to your face, are you using a toner to prep your skin? A great toner can help your favourite creams and serums penetrate deeper, allowing for greater impact while simultaneously cleansing and hydrating your skin. This extra step in your skincare routine will help get your skin glowing.

Moisturise Daily

After exfoliation and toning, an excellent moisturiser is the next step to healthy, radiant skin. A rich moisturiser will make the skin plumper and more hydrated, helping it reflect light and instantly appear brighter. A thick moisturiser will see you through autumn and winter.

Make a face glow mask

Give your skin a beauty treatment at home, using a face mask for radiance. Beauty masks have a high content of active ingredients, which is why they are essential if you want instant results of glow and hydration.

Try A Glow-Boosting Lotion

Another illuminating option that can make for more of a no makeup, makeup look: the L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Enhancer. This highlighting glow lotion provides effortless, natural-looking illumination. It’s a multi-use product that’s great for all skin types.

Wear Appropriate Clothes

Wearing the usual clothes that people wear for summer can also make their skin dry and itchy. So clothes have to be swapped according to the season. Wool, rough clothing on direct contact with the skin can cause irritation and itching.

Contour your face with a foundation that is three shades darker than your skin tone

"This will give the illusion of a tan without making the skin look muddy," says YSL Beauty's Makeup Expert Nour Agha. "Once you apply the foundation, use a bronzing powder or a face powder that is three shades darker on top of the areas that you contoured." This can even be done on the body where you are showing some skin. Evans recommends dusting the bronzer in between the cleavage and over the breast area to boost, under the jawline to define, and down the inner and outer thighs to sculpt.
